SHARING IS CARING

When I was a little girl, my parents and teachers used to ask me “what do you want to be when you grow up?” I loudly answered "I want to be a doctor". Because in my opinion ( at that time) and also my parents’  that a doctor was the best profession. My father looked so proud when my oldest sister reached her doctor degree. He hung the doctor plaque in the living room so everybody would take a look at it when came to our house. Maybe, he wanted to prove or to show to everybody that he was successful in educating  his children. So that was why it was one of my reasons when I was a kid,  I wanted to follow her. I am not mad to my parents when they expressed their overjoyed happiness on my oldest sister’s accomplishments as it is true that a doctor is good profession and most children have a dream of becoming  doctors when they grow up.
However,  I am not a doctor now.  I am a teacher. I am a kindergarten teacher. Oops! What  do you think? Do you think I feel sorry for that? or I regret as God doesn’t give me the opportunity to be a doctor. Or do you think  teaching is a cool profession? Is it a great achievement? When my parents and also everybody ask me questions, “ Do you like being a teacher?”. “ Do you like teaching kids?”  I would answer loud out,  “Yes! I am  proud being a teacher. I like teaching kids. I thank to My God, I have this opportunity and  love this profession.”
Do you know that another advantage of  being a teacher is I train my self to always say good things to children, appreciate whatever children do or achieve and also respect to all children although they are small or little people? It is not easy to appreciate someone else achievements which are the simple or ordinary ones. However, once again how lucky I am, here I have got the lesson from my small fellows, my kids and they are one of my best teachers. Yes, my students train me to always appreciate other’s achievements, to be polite and also to have good character. Even though they are kids not adults ones but I try to always respect them and listen to what they want. I realize I am not the best one however I am trying to give them the best lessons, learning time, experiences and practices.
I may share some wonderful things why I love this profession. As a kindergarten teacher, each my student  always had unforgettable story. Since these were memories when they were little, they will carry those memories forever and  be sweetest one in her/his life.  I feel so blessed, I could be part of my student’s sweetest memory. I think it is the best present for a teacher. As it means to me that they will remember me and  take me on their life journey.
Furthermore, there were always special stories for the first day of kindergarten school. Most students told me when first came to school, they were very nervous, afraid and confused. It was the hardest time to say goodbye to parents especially to their mommy.  Also, it was the first time for them to trust stranger and the stranger was a teacher. Of course, the stranger  was me. However, once they got to know me and other  teachers, to sing and to play together, It was fun. Nothing needed to worry anymore. Those were to be the good gold old days for my students. Even, now they are growing big and they are jammed full with works and activities. But they are still thinking about kindergarten and also the teachers. How lucky I am!
My every morning is a day of  adventure. Why do I say like that? As I know my students will be very excited for everything that I bring to class or  we do in the class with their friends. They often forget or ignore the rules to satisfy their curiosity. They may be overwhelmed or overstimulated in the classroom and they have short attention span. Moreover. we have to  remind the students the rules or repeat what they can do and can not do. I have to take care of myself and try not to lose my patience or to lose my temper or get frustrated easily and that is very important.
In my opinion, teaching is one of the most important professions in today’s society and this profession is not easy. As a teacher, you will shape the minds of others and encourage them to think and act independently. To become a good teacher, it’s important to be organized. Create lesson plans, objectives, activities, and assessment plans well before starting each class day. Get your students interested in learning by fostering a positive, supportive, yet challenging classroom environment.
This is 21st century.  I realize that as a teacher we have to keep learning as every year we teach different students and different era. Knowledge, technology, science are changing and progressing so fast. We have to teach with today's tools and technology. It means utilizing everything that is important in today's world so that students will be able to live and prosper in today's life.
I am trying to always do my job with my outmost. I still keep learning in order to  give my students best in education. They are young generations. They will build the country and the future will depend on them. Today’s Youth Society is tomorrow’s hope!  So, our children must have well education, well manner and well character. Our students and children have rights to get them all, to get the right one.
I do believe if we do all things sincerely, honestly and lillahi ta’ala or for Allah, God will guide and give us the good life. The good life is not only a bunch of money, of course, but also good health, good family, good friends, good opportunity, happy life, etc. May The Almighty God always guide and bless me, my family as well  everybody. Amen.
